CTRS Recertification

Each CTRS is required to recertify every five years in order to demonstrate their continuing professional knowledge and competence. The recertification application and fee are due by the expiration date posted at MY NCTRC LOGIN.

Requirements

In order to meet the requirements for continued certification, the CTRS must choose one of the following two options to recertify:

Option 1

Work Experience and Continuing Education


• 480 hours of professional work experience in
therapeutic recreation

AND

• Minimum 50 hours of continuing education
credit related to the NCTRC Job Analysis

Pass the National Certification Exam


Go to MY NCTRC LOGIN to complete the digital version application and submit payment online.

Exams available for recertification:

May Exam: for the June 30th expiration date

November Exam for the December 31st
expiration date

 


Application & Payment

Choose your method of application and payment:

1. Online: Go to MY NCTRC LOGIN to complete the digital version application and submit payment online.

Once you are logged into your Profile, please complete the Recertification – Education and Experience application by following the steps below:

  1. Complete Eligibility and Declarations, click SAVE.
  2. Complete Recertification Activities Summary, click SAVE.
  3. Continuing Education
    • Please click NEXT on the bottom of the page to continue to the next screen. It is not required to complete the Continuing Education page unless you are audited. If you are audited, you will be notified by email.
  4. Academic Courses
    • Please click NEXT on the bottom of the page to continue to the next screen. It is not required to complete the Academic Courses page unless you are audited. If you are audited, you will be notified by email.
  5. Publications, Presentations and Internship Supervision
    • Please click NEXT on the bottom of the page to continue to the next screen. It is not required to complete the Publication, Presentation and Internship Supervision page unless you are audited. If you are audited, you will be notified by email.
  6. Professional Experience
    • Please click NEXT on the bottom of the page to continue to the next screen. It is not required to complete the Professional Experience page unless you are audited. If you are audited, you will be notified by email.
  7. Select Invoices, click NEXT (You will only see the annual maintenance fee in the cart at this time).
  8. Complete Completion Confirmation, click SAVE. Your Status information will appear. Correct areas that are identified with an x.
  9. Checkout and pay (Now you will see both the annual maintenance and recertification fees in the cart).
2. Download: Recertification Application (PDF).
Print, complete and send with payment via postal mail, email, or fax.

Recertification Fees

The fee for the CTRS Recertification is $25.00 plus the Annual Maintenance Fee of $80.00.
Additional fees may be required depending upon the recertification option selected above. Please review the following list to determine the appropriate fee for recertification.

Exam Registration Fee $325.00
Exam Reschedule Fee $25.00
CTRS Reinstatement Fee  $25.00
Continuing Education Approval Process Review fee $35.00

The required fees must accompany each NCTRC application or the application will be returned. All fees must be in U.S. dollars. If an individual resides outside of the U.S., the fees must be sent by credit card, money order or cashier’s check in U.S. dollars made payable to NCTRC. All certification review fees paid to NCTRC are non-refundable, regardless of review decision or withdrawal of the application during the review process.
