Maintaining Your Credential: Annual Maintenance

Keep your CTRS® credential active through NCTRC’s annual maintenance process.

Each Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist® (CTRS) is required to continuously maintain competence in recreational therapy practice in order to keep their credential active. Once certified, individuals follow a five-year certification cycle. Take the steps to keep your certification active – professional certification is valuable.

ANNUAL MAINTENANCE DURING THE CERTIFICATION CYCLE FOR CTRSs:

  • To maintain certification and keep your certification status active, each CTRS is required to submit an annual maintenance application and fee for each year of the five-year certification cycle.
  • Login today at MY NCTRC LOGIN to check on your annual maintenance date and complete the application process on time. The annual maintenance application and fee are due by the expiration date posted in your personal account.
  • In the fifth year of the CTRS certification cycle, the annual maintenance fee must be submitted as part of the recertification application.

CTRSs are sent reminders via email when certification maintenance fees are due, so it is important for each individual to keep their MY NCTRC LOGIN profile up to date with their most current contact information.

In today’s demanding employment market, NCTRC Certification indicates to employers and the public that the CTRS has met the specific educational and professional experience requirements, in addition to passing the NCTRC Certification Exam. CTRSs who maintain certification will also retain their CTRS digital badge – allowing others to confirm the current authenticity of their certification.
